Case Study – Pen or Pin

Project Description..

In January 2007, Simon Greig, Principle of Phoenix in the Canberra office, was asked by Visa and MasterCard, the world’s top two payment systems, to assist with the project management of the roll-out of changes to the Issuing and Acquiring businesses for the some 250 institutions in the country that offer Visa and MasterCard products. In the following three months, Diners Club and American Express had joined in the fray of inclusions.

This project started with inviting representative specialists from each of the major contributors – technical, operational, logistical, marketing, communications – from which Simon weaved the Global Requirements Document.

Whilst the technical development personnel at the stakeholders proceeded with their coding, the communications working team proceeded with the development of collateral copy, design, web development and other matters that could be used by any of the stakeholders as they rolled out the readiness for the technical changes in Autumn 2008.

On the 4th of June 2008 the project was released to production – a complete success. Simon received many comments of how well he managed the complex, multi-dimensional and industry first project.

Simon, elected to be the Industry spokesman for the project, provided over 50 interviews to wireless, print media and TV journalists in the two weeks leading up to and just after the project launch.

Over 19 million card, 600,000 merchants and millions of retail transactions a week are impacted by this project.
